Repertoire of the Nanaian ensemble "Givana"

A Chinese bride. A Nanaian fairy tale.

The rich Solodo looked for a bride for his son Aljumki who was as stupid as an owl. The most beautiful girls were taken to the bride-show. But not a single girl met Solodo and Aljumki's requirements: one had short hands, another had sly eyes, the third had lame legs. At last Aljumki liked a very beautiful girl but his father turned her down because she was poor.
So Aljumki and Solodo desided to go to the Nequanian Empire to find a bride there. In that country they met a Chinese tangerine who agreed to give his beloved daughter to Aljumki. The father and the son were very happy, for the girl was noble and with good dowry.
But on their way home they were attacked and stolen by robbers. Solodo and Aljumki consoled themselves that they at least had got a noble bride but at home it turned out that the cunning Chinese tangerine had cheated them and had palmed off an old woman on them.

A silver bracelet. A Nanaian legend.

In a Nanaian settlement there lived a young woman. When it was time for her to give birth to a baby she died and a newborn became an orphan. The girl was taken to be brought up by her grandfather and grandmother.
The shaman of the settlement named the girl Chalchinai and put on her neck a silver bracelet, which was a fortune-bringing talisman.
16 years passed. Chalchinai grew up and became the most beautiful girl in the settlement. The old shaman fell in love with the beauty and offered Chalchinai to become his wife. But Chalchinai loved Choril, a strong and brave young man, and the shaman was turned down.
The shaman became very angry and demanded Chalchinai to return the bracelet to him or to marry him. It was his trap as one might not cut the talisman - it would be a sin, and he knew Chalchinai could not take off the bracelet safe and sound. Choril decided to go to the Nequanian Empire to meet the great master Mocha who had made this bracelet. He hoped that Mocha would help them. Chalchinai gave her word to the shaman that she would return the talisman in ten days or become his wife. So Choril only had ten days to meet Mocha and take a second bracelet from him.
Early in the morning of the tenth day as Choril had gone the shaman came to Chalchinai and demanded to go with him. Suddenly Choril appeared and gave a bracelet, which was the same as Chalchinai wore, to the shaman. The shaman had to do nothing but go away.

Ajoga. A Nanaian fairy tale.

In a Nanaian settlement there lived an old man with his granddaughter Ajoga. Ajoga was a very nice, clever and beautiful girl, ran the house, helped the grandfather. All children in the settlement were her friends.
Everybody liked Ajoga except one person. That was a woman with a malicious, odious and hateful heart. God had punished her for that - she had no children.
Once she met Ajoga and began to praise her:
"You are so clever, hardworking and beautiful, there is no such a girl in any other settlement. Your face is so fair but the sun will burn it. Your hands are so gentle but hard work will cover it with wrinkles. If you work much you will grow old soon and all your beauty will be gone."
Woman's flattery blinded Ajoga.
She began to admire herself. At home she did nothing but looked at herself in a copper basin, outdoors she stopped playing with her friends and only watched her reflection in the river.
What happened to Ajoga?

Azmun-silver spear. A Nanaian fairy tale.

Near the Amur river there was a big Nanaian settlement.
Shaman's wife gave birth to their son Chunchu. At the same time Monokto's wife gave birth to Azmun and died. Soon inhabitants of the settlement found a cradle in the river. In the cradle there was a baby and a silver spear with a red ribbon, which protected it from evil spirits. A lonely woman Anga took this girl and named her Unkue that meant God's gift.
16 years passed.
Chunchu was brought up a silly, lazy boy. Azmun on the contrary was father's joy, a successful hunter and fisherman. Unkue grew up a beautiful and skillful woman. Azmun and Unkue fell in love with each other.
When it was the time to marry Unkue a lot of grooms from different places came to ask Unkue for her hand.
The shaman also decided to marry his son to receive a magic root of life Ginseng with a dowry. Suddenly a trouble overtook the settlement. " The Big fish " had not come to the river and the settlement was threatened with starvation. Even the shaman could not help it.
Unkue gave her word to become a wife of that man who would save the whole settlement from starvation. Everybody knew that only the Owner of Mountains, Rivers and Woods could help them but fue wanted to go to meet him, as it could be their last trip.
Azmun desided to go to the Owner, for he loved Unkue and wanted to help people. Unkue wished Azmun to be her husband and gave him the silver spear with the red ribbon, which would protect him.The shaman also sent his son to the Owner. Chunchu was weak and lazy and the shaman caused black forces of the forest to help his son. Chunchu though yielded halfway and went back. But Azmun overcame all difficulties and met the Owner of Mountains, Rivers and Woods. He told the whole story to the Owner and it turned out that Unkue was his daughter. In celebration the Owner sent a lot of different fish to Amur.
Azmun and Unkue received blessing of the father, the mother and the Owner of Mountains, Rivers and Woods, and got married.
